Executive Board Yearbook Picture

 

 The Executive Board members of the Spanish Club posed for a yearbook photo. 

 Pictured are all students from the JCA class of '14.

Only seniors were available for the picture because it was taken at the last minute, during an 8th period when some students were in classes and could not get out.  Other executive members were Juniors Casey Corless, Jay Waldron, Juan Diaz, Victoria Kwaben, Madelyn Taylor and senior Lauren Getzke.

Spanish Community Center

Several Spanish Club members donated their time and effort to help sanitize daycare rooms at the Joliet Spanish Community Center.

The Spanish Club has been volunteering approximately one Saturday per month to lend a hand for a good cause. 

Besides the elbow grease, the students also bring cleaning supplies as a donation to the Center.

National Spanish Honor Society Ceremony 2014

New members were inducted into the National Spanish Honor Society, and four year members were awarded medals to wear on their graduation gowns.

Step-Daughter Visit

 Profe's step-daughter, Diana, who is 10 years old, came to shadow Profe at JCA.  She has been doing this for the past several years and really enjoys it.  In the past, she would pass out candy when we played a game, but this time she came prepared with her own lesson plan!  She showed the class what disasters can  happen when you rely on an online translator.  She demonstrated this by showing the classes a video of the popular song, "Let It Go," from the movie, "Frozen." In this video, the song lyrics had been put through many different languages in a translator app, then changed back to English.  For example, instead of "Let It Go," the main line of the song was now "Give up", which clearly is not the intended meaning!

Before going home that day, Diana left a note for the classes to read the next day (see below).
