Piñata Contest

After offering a workshop for students to learn how to make piñatas, the finished products were entered into a contest.  They were put on display in the Library and students voted on their favorites.

The price winning piece of art was the dragon (above, right) by Mimi Ernst, '15.  Second place as the hot air balloon by Sara Gottardo, '14.

Field Trip to a Musical

Profe Finaldi took her classes to see the play,  In The Heights.
Everyone loved the music and the story.

 In The Heights

Making it in New York City is tough. Few get the chance to live out their dreams, and the cast and crew of In the Heights know this all too well.  The musical is set outside a bodega in the Latino neighborhood of Washington Heights is a highly risky proposition. It took eight years in all, but they succeeded beyond their wildest expectations, winning four Tony Awards along the way, including Best Musical and Best Score for a Musical.

Piñata Workshop

Spanish club hosted a Piñata Making Workshop.  Anyone could attend these three after-school sessions for a fee of $5, which went towards supplies.
Students could enter their finished pieces in the contest.  The winning piñata will be saved and the rest will be used in our Cinco de Mayo festivities.

Many students chose to team up and work together, while others preferred working alone.  New art teacher, Mrs. Popow, was nice enough to let us use her room for this activity.

Starting off Class

This year, Profe Finaldi devised a plan to have students begin each class period by introducing themselves, telling the day and date, telling what prayer we would be reciting, and leading the prayer.
Each student was given a schedule so he could prepare for his day.

Spanish Club meets every other Thursday after school in Profe Finaldi's room 227.
(Madeline Seneker, '15)

Once per month, the meetings are Chips 'n Salsa.  Students and Profe bring in chips and other treats to go along with them.
Our first big event this year is our Piñata Workshop and contest.  At this meeting, we made signs about the workshop.

Profe is in a Sr. Wooly Video!

As a huge Sr. Wooly fan, Profe Finaldi could not have been happier to get to be part of the making of one of his videos, Los Quehaceres.  You can spot her briefly in the scene of the student busting into the teacher's lounge.

Also, as compensation, she received an official "Billy la Bufanda," which she is proudly wearing for in her photo with Sr. Wooly!

You must be a member to see the whole video, but you can watch a preview at the following link:

Taco Bell Class Video

Spanish III students made a great video to the humorous Spanish version of We are young by Fun, ft Janelle Monáe, which was used in a Taco Bell Superbowl commercial (see below).  In the original, senior citizens are shown escaping from a nursing home, grabbing some Taco Bell, and partying like they are 21 again.  In the class parody, they show a similar concept, but this time with students escaping from detention.
